The braided cord pattern is one of the most representative patterns of Nabeshima ware, and has been loved as an auspicious pattern symbolizing matchmaking and bonds.
It is delicately painted in two colors, blue underglaze and red overglaze, and the depiction of the braided cord tassels drawn with intricate dots and lines gives the design a sense of the high level of skill of the potters at the Nabeshima clan kilns, which have been in operation since the Edo period.
This is a popular series that is used as a gift for celebrating marriage.
The small bowl with wave carving is also recommended as a set with the large bowl with wave carving.
